Our first physics law of cartoons is wrong

It’s been quite a while I see a meme showing this funny cartoon law of physics:

“Gravity doesn’t work until you look down”

When first saw it, I was laughing and nodding justify it: the cartoon character is indeed falling — meaning that gravity doesn’t work — until he began looking down.

That’s right,

That’s the physics law of cartoon.

But recently I realized that it is wrong. A friend show that meme to me and ask for a little explanation — and then I noticed a mistake.

Gravity doesn’t work until you look down” is not true at all. In fact, the cartoon figures can still do normal activity as there is gravity — without looking down every time.

Even when we take the condition around the critical point, that is, a condition which relied upon “gravity doesn’t work until you look down” — when the cartoon character still running before fall, gravity still works. Without gravity, it’s unlikely he ran or walks as smooth as it is.

Gravity still works.

Then I propose a new physics law of cartoon. In fact it isn’t new, I just pursing the existing conditions in the cartoon… that the incidence of “gravity doesn’t work until you look down” will only occur when the cartoon character was about to experience the free fall motion.

Therefore, rather than say gravity, I would much prefer to say that

“Free fall motion doesn’t work until you look down”

Without looking down, free fall motion won’t happen.

PS: Maaf kalau bahasa inggrisnya acak-acakan. Saya menulis ini untuk belajar menulis bahasa inggris
